Tunes For Sharks To Have Sex To

I am not making this up.

I swear.

It's stuff like this that really makes me happy that I write about how "science is stranger than fiction."

In Germany, scientists studied what kinds of music could help put sharks "in the mood." Gee, and you thought scientists were running out of areas of study. The sharks at the ten Sea Life centers contain mostly younger shark, and they haven't been exposed to adult role models when it comes to courting and reproducing (I would think that that was a GOOD thing).

So for two hours every day, each of the ten facilities played all kinds of music. Visitors and staff were then asked to observe the behavior of the sharks during this time, and to document their findings. All-in-all, over 1000 songs were played.

Here are the top five songs that the scientists noted helped sharks get horny:

#5 Bob Marley's "No Woman, No Cry."

#4 Justin Timberlake's "Rock Your Body."

#3 James Last's "Traumschiff." (Which is the German version of the "Love Boat" theme).

#2 Joe Cocker's "You Can Leave Your Hat On."

And finally...the top sex-inducing song for sharks is...

Salt 'N Pepa's "Push It."

Why would anyone even think to research this ?

I have to say I don't care for their taste in music at all....

What?! No Barry White?

"Loooove ... exciting and new ... climb aboard, we've been expecting you!" (Anyway, that's how I remember the Love Boat theme.)

Are you sure that was the sharks or the observers?

Dun-dah-dun-dah-dun-dah-dun-dah, dun-dah-dah!

pixie, At one aquarium, the sharks were completely unresponsive when they played a Brtiney Spears song.

dan, Whoa...I guess I stole his pic.

delmer, Yeah - where's the Barry White. I'm ashamed that I can actually sing the entire theme song to Love Boat.

brianalt, I really don't want to know.

ajooja, Good one!!! Jaws was also a name of a porno.

KC, I would've thought maybe "Under the Sea" or "Waterfalls" would've been on that list.

Well, ok, then. Did they study whether sharks like being watched?

Methinks scientists need to focus their studies on other things ... like what songs are most likely to prompt sharks to eat people.

ha great now I have Push It stuck in my head. Ha.

Interesting selections to say the least. They had that freak on shark week that put sharks into a hypnotic state by rubbing their noses(i think what he was doing) nuts if you ask me

Wow you really can't make something like that up. It is almost too funny to be true. I must say the sharks have an interesting taste in music.

I have to agree with Pixie that shark music tastes totally suck. Listening to Joe Cocker while watching sharks hump sounds like I would need a larger research stipend.

Now I am really wanting to download the Germanic version of The Love Boat. If The Hoff sings the tune it would be even better.

How... uh... interesting. I'm wondering what made them think that ANY music would put a shark in the mood for sex??!! Putting blood in the water would probably have done the trick.
And to think, scientists gets paid to think up such things!
