Big Bertha of a UFO...Blimey!!!!

An article recently published in Pilot Magazine reports that a British airline pilot clearly saw a cigar-shaped UFO in the skies over the Channel Islands. This in itself is not remarkable. And the fact that several passangers corraborate his sighting is not Earth-shattering. Another plane from a different airline flying nearby ALSO saw the same object, but that doesn't make this story incredible.

What makes this sighting different from all the others is the sheer size of this UFO. Aurginy Airlines pilot, Captain Ray Bowyer said that the bright object had to be around A MILE LONG.

Here's what Capt. Bowyer had to say about what he saw:

"It was a very sharp, thin yellow object with a green area," Bowyer said that he used a pair of binoculars to view the flying craft more closely. "It was 2,000 feet up and stationary. I thought it was about 10 miles away, although I later realized it was approximately 40 miles from us.

"At first, I thought it was the size of a (Boeing) 737, but it must have been much bigger because of how far away it was. It could have been as much as a mile wide."

As he continued the journey, he spotted an identical object - but this one was much further away.
Throughout the years, there have been tons of reports on triangular UFOs, dish shaped ones, and even crafts shaped like eggs.

But who ever heard of a cigar shaped UFO???
Cigar-shaped UFO? Come on! That's so ca-razy.

But I am glad you told us about it...does this mean we really aren't alone?

Uhhhh ... how did he "realize" that is was 40 miles away??

Whenever I hear stories like this one, I remember the story of the pilots who saw a massive object moving around, floating back and forth. For several minutes, they were totally enthralled by what could only have been an large alien craft ... until they discovered that it was a small tree branch that their eyes, to make sense of, imagined further away and huge.

Obviously this is scientific proof of Alien life. Thanks for documenting it on the blog.

I love stories like this...I so wish I could see something other than disgruntled passengers on airline flights.

So, are we waiting for a real life "Independence Day"? Where some disk the size of a city hovers over London before it blows Big Ben away with a green laser?

As Freud says... if it smells like a cigar and plays with cigars... oh wait, that's Bill Clinton.

(Government is just always up to no good.)

For some reason, it also reminds me of the movie, "Caddyshack". Baby Ruth in the sky, anyone?

My grandmother once told me about a friend of hers who said she saw a cigar shaped ufo hovering above her at a intersection. I always thought the shape description she used was odd.

I always find it interesting how any ufo sighting story, not matter how legit it seems (like when military people make claims) never make bigger news stories. Not that they are all real but I think the possibility is more interesting than Paris Hilton's food in jail.

Cigar shaped, that is odd indeed. At least it's a change from the typical saucer shaped sightings :)

This is kind of off-topic, but "corroborate" has always been an awkward word for me.

I saw this guy interviewed just the other night on CNN and they were pretty much mocking him by showing a version of the events on a split screen it was kind of funny, but I felt bad for the guy who looked uncomfortable

Suppository-shaped? Lozenge-shaped? It could have been described several ways, though we may have discomfort to imagine something a mile wide being equated with a suppository. Frankly, I don't believe it. These days, pretty much everyone has a cellphone with a camera, and often a moving camera. If that were viewable from a plane, there would have been a panic on the aircraft and everyone on board would have known about it, and SOME people would have filmed it. Poppycock, I say.

there was a cigar-shaped one that followed the Missouri River west from St. Louis in the 1970's that was seen by thousands

I feel bad for the pilot. I believe he's genuine, and he's going to be ostracized by the media and his peers.

The guy saw "something." It's a small plane, only a handful of passengers. Only two passangers caught sight of this thing.

Bruce has a point, why don't you ever hear about octagon UFOs...or maybe trapazoids???

i just think it is naive of us to think that we are the only ones out here. Plus I am hoping that aliens will abduct Bush and Cheney and take them to a galaxy far, far away.
